Taiko Foods, a premier sushi manufacturer in the UK, is renowned for its delicious, artistically crafted sushi sold across multiple retail outlets like Waitrose, Lidl and Tesco.

The company place high emphasis on sourcing quality ingredients that enable their sushi platters to shine on supermarket shelves, capturing the attention and taste buds of discerning customers.

In August 2021, Swati, Cheeky Food’s founder, had began experimenting with coloured sesame seeds. Her goal was to blend natural, plant-based colours with sesame seeds to develop a novel product.

Over three months, Swati explored various possibilities, turning the process into a fun and colourful experiment appreciated not just by her but also her children, who were thrilled to see the vibrant results (even using the unsuccessful attempts for craft projects)!

By October 2021, these experiments had culminated in something truly special – the creation of the UK’s first range of Coloured Sesame Seeds in different shades, including Bright Orange, Dark Green and Pretty Pink.

Upon presenting these groundbreaking products to Taiko’s New Product Development team, the response was overwhelmingly positive. They recognised the potential these innovative toppings held for sushi presentation.

By April 2022, Taiko Foods had incorporated the Bright Orange sesame seeds into their sushi offerings in Waitrose, and by July 2022, the full colour range adorned a premium sushi line in Lidl stores nationwide, where they were met with great enthusiasm from consumers.

Frequently Answered Questions

What are Sprinkles ?

Sprinkles are seasoning mixes of superfood seeds, spices and herbs that are an easy way to add flavour, texture and nutrition to everyday meals.

While a spice mix is usually used during cooking, sprinkles are ready to eat and can be added on top of finished meals to improve the flavour and visual impact of the dish.

A Sprinkle a day keeps the bland away. Sprinkles can be your chef’s new best friend to quickly add layers of flavour to a base recipe.
For example, the same base soup can be flavours with a Coconut Thai Sprinkle or a Japanese Shichimi Sprinkles creating two completely unique end dishes.
Our sprinkles are also premixed in the right proportions to cut down cooking time for your kitchen staff.
